Who can do agility?

  1. Any dog that likes to learn new things and have fun!

  2. Dogs must not be aggressive to people or other dogs.

  3. You must be able to keep your dog quiet. Dog’s are not permitted to bark continuously during  class.

  4. Dogs must be able to pay attention to their handler in the presence of other dogs.

  5. Your dog must be physically sound.

Agility Classes are 60 minutes and meet 1 night per week for 7 weeks, unless otherwise noted. Classes are limited to 6 dogs (with exception of Agility I). It is not uncommon to repeat classes multiple times. Please thoroughly read the Agility class guidelines BEFORE registering for a class.

Puppy Agility: is for puppies up to 6 months old. Introduction to basic agility type obstacles and foundation skills with socialization and obedience work.
Prerequisite: Dogs must not be aggressive with humans or other dogs, dogs must not bark continually during class, dogs must be physically sound.
3 week class. Cost: $70
Location: Shirlington campus


Agility I: For Dogs new to Agility. Introduction to basic obstacles such as jumps, tunnels, and contacts and beginning handling concepts.
Prerequisite: Dogs must not be aggressive with humans or other dogs, dogs must not bark continually during class, dogs must be physically sound.
7 week class. Cost: $185

Location: Shirlington campus


Agility II: Work on increasing proficiency with all obstacles (including contacts and weaves) and introduces handling skills.
Prerequisite: Agility I
7 week class. Cost: $185

Location: Shirlington campus


Agility III: Introduces handling crosses and solidifies contact performance. Continued training of weave poles. Dogs should be able to comfortable with all the equipment with the exception of teeter and weaves and must be able to work off leash.
Prerequisite: Agility I and II
7 week class. Cost: $185

Location: Shirlington campus


Pre-Competition Agility: For teams that are comfortable with all of the equipment with weave and teeter work in progress. Dog must be able to work off leash and handlers should be comfortable with all crosses.
Prerequisite: Agility III
7 week class. Cost: $185

Novice Agility: For teams who are preparing to compete at the Novice/Starters/ Advanced/Open level. Dogs must be able to perform weaves and teeter unaided.
Prerequisite: Ready to compete.
7 week class. Cost: $185

Advanced Competition Standard: For teams competing at the Elite/Masters/Excellent level. Courses will include contacts.
Prerequisite: Open or Advanced Leg
7 week class. Cost: $185

Advanced Competition Jumpers: For teams competing at the Elite/Masters/Excellent level. Only Jumpers/JWW courses will be run. No contact work.
Prerequisite: Open or Advanced Leg

Jumping Skills: Work on handling and communication with your dog and their physical jumping ability. Dogs must be able to work off leash around other dogs.
Prerequisite: Proficient jumping, ability to work off leash around other dogs.

Contact Skills: Designed to develop consistent, independent contact behaviors.
Prerequisite: Proficient contacts, ability to work off leash.

Weaves: For dogs that have not yet learned to weave. Designed to produce confident independent weave poles.
Prerequisite: ability to work off leash.
7 week class. Cost: $185

Distance handling: Work on developing distance handling skills.
Prerequisite:
Dogs need to be comfortable with all agility obstacles, and be able to work off leash.
7 week class. Cost: $185

Advanced Weaves: Work on developing greater independence and speed on the weave poles. For dogs that can weave 6 poles in line with no aids. Dogs must be able to work off leash.
Prerequisite: ability to work off leash.

Agility is a fun sport in which you and your dog work together to navigate an obstacle course with speed and precision. It is a great training experience for those who just want to try something new with their dog as well as for those who want to compete.
